Fair use rationale for Image:LamarEmblem.jpg

[edit]

Image:LamarEmblem.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Obscure Pop Culture Reference

[edit]

I'm not sure where to put this, but the movie Student Bodies was filmed in Lamar High. However, the school was called "Lamab" for unknown reasons. If you watch the movie, several references to Lamar have been redubbed to "Lamab", and one scene the R in Lamar was painted to look like a B. Privacy concerns

[edit]

Upon reading this article, I made the observation that the "Larry Newton" incident had the names of five students that aided in fending off Newton printed in the article. I am concerned that this may be a bit of a privacy concern, although I know the list is accurate. I think we should consider removing the names for the sake of privacy.--LWF (talk) 07:12, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is a policy called Wikipedia:BLP, but this has been extensively covered in the media (with some national U.S.A. coverage) with not only names but also video images of people involved, so I'm not sure if it is an issue with BLP. However if you want let the BLP Noticeboard know. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:07, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I do have a little more than a passing familiarity with WP:BLP, specifically I am referring to WP:BLP#Privacy of names. I was not aware of any national coverage though, and wonder if you could provide an example.--LWF (talk) 04:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here are a couple of examples of national coverage:

Notable alumni

[edit]

An editor has removed:

  • Ashley Jones (Emmy Nominated actress on CBS' The Bold and The Beautiful & HBO's True Blood)

Class of....

[edit]

While notable alumni section is helpful, but wouldn't it be helpful if we could put in the year graduated (or in Marvin's case, attended)?

Is there a reasoning behind it, or just no one thought about it, since it can be difficult to pinpoint the dates?--Hourick (talk) 19:37, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into it after making this comment, I think it would just be best to tack them on as the information is found and not really worth the effort.--Hourick (talk) 17:22, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Alumni....again

[edit]

It seems that the list is steadily growing longer. Perhaps now would be a good time to discuss as to how we can organize it or parse it to a separate article in the future. Personally, I recommend that we break make it into two, and eventually three, columns. --Hourick (talk) 08:03, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should we organize the alumni by vocation like the university alumni lists do? WhisperToMe (talk) 01:17, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That would seem to be a good start to do it, and I can't think if another way that would make it more efficient. Since I know you work on all things related to schools/education, surely you know might know of a standard for more notable schools/universities. If not, this could be a good chance to create one!--Hourick (talk) 17:18, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Alumni

[edit]

The author Donald Barthelme attended and graduated from Lamar, as a transfer from St. Martin, in his senior year (1949), per the 1949 yearbook. He was a member of the Sequoyah Creative Writing club. This is also mentioned on Barthelme's main Wiki page. Mickjeco (talk) 05:14, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
